About Lindale TX

Considered part of the Tyler TX metro area, Lindale Texas is located in Smith County,and the population, as of the 2010 US Census, was 4,818. The indigenou Caddo people inhabited the area for thousands of years, and later occupied by the Cherokee, but they were driven out by the founding of the Republic of Texas in 1836. The town of Lindale was officially founded in 1871 and built around the plantation of Confederate Army official Richard Hubbard, who arranged for the railroad to run through the site of the town. His brother in law Elijah Lindsey, opened the first post office, and local legend states that the town was first named Lindseydale in his honor before it was shortened to Lindale. By the turn of the 20th century, the town was bustling, with a population of over 500, churches, shops, professionals like doctors and lawyers, and a canning factory.

This history is preserved at the Old Mill Pond Museum with exhibits about the early days of the town as well as its history of agricultural production. Because of the many farms, Lindale is known as the “blackberry capital of the world.” Today, Lindale is a lovely place for a day trip or a stop on a tour of the DFW area, as the town is along Interstate 20 and US Highway 69. These highways have brought new development to the town as well as plenty of visitors.
